Dry tropical forest

Project Review

By touring and inhabiting the territories of the world, human beings generate traces
in nature, which is affected by the consumption of their resources and intervention
of spaces. Tatacoa is no stranger to it; This territory is in deterioration due to
human activities that have affected over time the dry tropical forest that
characterizes the area, taking into account that this place is not a desert. The
interactive guide for sustainable use of La Tatacoa “Ecotatacoa”, arises in 2015
from a project of the Master's Degree in Design and Interactive Creation of the
University of Caldas, and from the investigation the problem that affects the
conditions of the environment, which is due to three factors: bad habits of the
resident population, bad habits of visitors and pollution. This problem is evidenced
in the study areas determined by this research: the paths Cuzco, Palmira and El
Doche, which are connected by a main route and where the main tourist activities
that attract national and foreign visitors converge, which constitute the most
important economic source of the population living in the area.

Based on the mixed methodology – research methods and collection techniques, to
which the support of the local community is added, the need to guide visitors and
residents of the area through a digital and interactive tool was defined, with the
purpose of reducing habits that deteriorate the nature of La Tatacoa. It is important
that from the design initiatives are taken that help to improve the world, and give
the opportunity to our next generations to know La Tatacoa as a place of
coexistence with the dry tropical forest.
